Wahkiakum County District Court processes misdemeanor criminal
and traffic charges issued by the Washington State Patrol, Wahkiakum
County Sheriff's Office, Wahkiakum County Prosecutor, State Department
of Fish & Wildlife, and Department of Natural Resources. It
also has the jurisdiction to handle civil matters up to $75,000,
as well as Anti-Harassment Orders, Small Claims and name changes.
The part time District Court Judge is elected to a four year term
and in addition to hearing cases is authorized to perform civil
marriage ceremonies. The majority of the cases are heard
by the District Court Judge, but occasionally a Judge Pro-Tem
is appointed to assist.
Clerical tasks, such as scheduling, inquires, and receipting for
fines and fees are handled by the court staff under the direction
of the District Court Administrator who is directly responsible
to the Judge.
